This blog will be updated every week until May 1st, this will follow the production of my final year project at University, in the subject of Games Art.
Project Overview
As a refresher, I am working on a game-ready environment based on Nacho Yague’s concept art from Watch Dogs 2.
Current Progress
As I mentioned last week I wanted to focus on figuring out how to create my textures for my environment using trim sheets. Throughout my research, I’ve been finding it really hard to try and focus on figuring how to create one from scratch. This week I will be meeting up with my university supervisor to get a better understanding of how to create one so I can start to add textures to my environment.
So what have I done this week? Ah well, that’s easy to tell you, I’ve been focusing on getting some of the assets modelled for the environment, and getting them placed in scene correctly.
So this is where I left off last week, I had added a window at the back to get some more light in the scene.

The main thing that got added was the tv rig in the centre of the ring, I needed to get this done as quickly as possible as I needed a focal point in the scene. The cable actor managed to help with the asset too.

A little further into the week, I decided to change the lighting in the scene to be a little darker as its an interior with boarded up windows, meaning that there wouldn’t be that much outside light coming into the scene, so the original lighting was way too bright.
I also started to get another type of table in the scene so it was more varied and didn’t constantly look like the same asset put around the scene constantly.
There is now also a mesh for the lights on the ceiling and a mesh for the stairs, punching bags, and PC units.
Feedback
This week I managed to get some feedback from a friend, Bruce Slater, alongside James Montague and Stewart Pirie.

The feedback is as follows;
White – Add a rug to the area its too empty
Blue – Get more light shadows like this
Red – Get some posters on the wall to make it feel more cluttered
Yellow – Add more cables, can never have too many cables
This feedback was enough to make my scene look even better than before, so I got this feedback done as soon as I could.

Adding the cables everywhere definitely made the scene look different, and I will probably go back to add more when I get more assets cluttered around the scene.
Whats Next?
This week, I will get in contact with my supervisor to start some production on some textures. I will also try to get every asset finished for the scene, not including high poly. Overall I am quite happy with the progress done so far.
Catch you all later 😉
